Nanjing boasts a developed bus service system. By 2014, there were 369 operating routes and 5,646 vehicles in service. The Nos.1-159 buses run on routes in urban areas; the numbers beginning with“3” mark minibuses in urban areas; those beginning with “Y” are nighttime buses in urban areas; those beginning with Chinese character “ 游 ”(you) are tourist buses in urban areas; those beginning with“6” are buses running in the Pukou and Liuhe districts; those beginning with Chinese character “ 文 ”(wen) are buses shuttling between downtown and the suburbs. All the buses in Nanjing require self-service ticketing. Ordinary buses have a single fare of one Yuan, and air-conditioned buses two Yuan. The fare of buses heading for suburbs is charged according to actual mileage.
