Also known as Dry Face City, Stone City is about 500 meters west of Qingliang Gate. It was the west cliff of Qingliang Mountain. Later, to build the Huju Road, the ridge of the mountain was cut off, so the cliff was separated from the mountain. In ancient times, Qingliang Mountain was adjacent to the Yangtze River in the west.
the river water and rain, its surface became uneven and looked like a mask, dubbed “dry face”. In early Ming Dynasty, the city wall of Nanjing extended here. Since the steep “dry face” cliff was a natural barrier, the city wall was integrated with the cliff. At present, Stone City is open as a park, becoming one of the symbols of old Nanjing.
