The Confucius Temple Qinhuai Scenery Belt is an AAAAA-level tourist area with natural scenery, gardens, temples, old-fashioned schools, residential houses and folklore. 

Centering on the ancient buildings of the Confucius Temple and taking the 5-km-long inner Qinhuai River as the axis, the scenery belt extends from the East Shuiguan Park to the West Shuiguan Park (pres-ent-day Shuiximen),and is dotted with numer-ous attractions. Located at Zhanyuan Road north of Laiyan  Bridge, Zhanyuan Garden is an important heritage site under state protection. With a history of  over 600 years, it is also the only well preserved  and open kingly mansion of the Ming Dynasty  in Nanjing.

It was granted by Zhu Yuanzhang,  Emperor Taizu of Ming, to Xu Da, the most  meritorious minister in the founding of the  Ming Dynasty with the noble title of King of  Zhongshan. Known as the “Number One Garden in Jinling”, it was also the temporary dwelling palace of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing  Dynasty during his southern inspection tours.  The name “Zhan Yuan” was given and inscribed  by Emperor Qianlong. During the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom (Taiping Tianguo, 1851-1864),  it became the residence of the East King Yang  Xiuqing and Young West King Xiao Youhe.
