This is a memorial cemetery located at  Jiangdong Gate, in the Hexi new city zone.  In 1937, Japanese soldiers killed more than  300,000 innocent Chinese after capturing  Nanjing.

To remember this terrible period of  history and to educate people through history,  Nanjing Municipal People’s Government built  this hall on the ruins of a burial ground for over  ten thousand people near Jiangdong Gate. The  Hall was established to mark the 40th anniversary of the Chinese victory in the war against  Japanese aggression. Scenes of the massacre are  shown using technology including historical  data, cultural relics, buildings, sculpture, and  film and television. It is a “national patriotism  education demonstration base” in China. In  2015, the Documents of the Nanjing Massacre  was inscribed on the UNESCO’s Memory of the  World Register.
