Originally called “Official Residence of  the President of the National Government”,  theMay-ling Palace was built from the spring of 1931 to the autumn of 1932. 

The main building  is a splendid three-storied example of pseudo-classic architecture with carved beams, painted rafters and overhanging eaves. Its roof is covered by green glazed tiles patterned with some  one thousand phoenixes. Since Soong May-ling  used to worship and rest there, the residence is  commonly known as “May-ling Palace”.

Zhongshan Botanical Garden was formerly  known as “Sun Yat-sen Memorial Arboretum”,  and was built in 1929. China’s oldest arboretum, it is located in the Zhongshan Mountain  Scenic Area in Nanjing. It covers an area of 186  hectares. 

It lies close by Zhongshan Mountain,  the Xiaoling Tomb of the Ming Dynasty and  Meihua Mountain to the east, and the Ming Dynasty city walls to the south. The garden enjoys  a mild climate, lush vegetation and forests, and  it integrates mountains, water, city and forests.  With its exquisite natural scenery, it is renowned  as a “fairy land of plants” in Nanjing.

The Memorial Hall of Meiyuan New Village is located on both sides of Meiyuan New  Village Street, around the eastern segment of  Changjiang Road, east of Nanjing.

It consists of  the former site of the Delegation Office of the  Communist Party of China, the Exhibition Hall  of Historical Data on CCP-KMT Negotiations in  Nanjing, a bronze statue of Zhou Enlai, and the  Zhou Enlai Library. It is a modern historical site  and a revolutionary museum.

The Mansion Building Complex of the  Republic of China on Yihe Road is the largest  mansion district of the former politicians in Nanjing and even in China. It was where politicians  and celebrities of the Republic of China lived.

The garden-style villas were where the important  military and political Kuomintang officials lived,  along with rich and powerful people and foreigners before the liberation. It is the most top-grade  residential area from the Republic of China period  that has survived in Nanjing today. It is known as  the “Official Area of the Republic of China”, the  “Embassy District” and a “Modern Architecture  Model Area”.  The Mansion District on Yihe Road has  European-style villas with gardens. The building  area comprises 690,000 square meters, including  a green area which accounts for 65 percent of the  total. Well-known people who lived here include  Chiang Wei-Kuo, Yu Youren, Chen Cheng, and  General Marshall.
